You could benefit by reading this article if you're a man
who thinks your wife or girlfriend prefers red roses. I was
recently at a conference with both women and men in
attendance. One speaker asked the men of the audience how
many would buy their wife red roses? Every single one
raised their hand. The speaker went on to ask the women how
many would prefer to receive red roses. Only a few women
raised their hands affirmatively, out of a crowd of
hundreds. Next, the speaker asked the women whether they
would like to receive yellow or peach roses, hundreds
responded with a resounding yes.
Shock may be registering with you right now. You may be
thinking, "What? Not my girlfriend/wife?! She's never
complained!" You're right - she probably hasn't complained;
getting a red rose is better than getting no roses.
Nevertheless, that doesn't change the fact that she would
probably appreciate something a little less prosaic. Now, I
know this can be hard to accept, but it's going to be okay.
I'm going to help you figure how to get your girlfriend or
wife the kinds of roses she deserves.
Start by thinking about her. What are her favorite colors,
and which colors doesn't she like at all? How does she
decorate the house - bright, bold, spare, cluttered? These
facts can tell you a lot about what would appeal to her
aesthetics when you bring her flowers. If you know she
prefers warm colors like yellow and red, you could buy a
combination of both, or even better, purchase a lovely
bouquet of red-tipped yellow roses. These are roses
uniquely fitted to her tastes.
When you are selecting colors of any flower, and
particularly roses, consider the fact that flower colors
have traditional meanings. The colors send a message to
people in the know. In the example of the red-tipped yellow
roses, if you're buying for your wife because they're her
favorite colors - then go for it. However, be aware what
you're saying if you give these roses to a friend. They are
generally considered the 'From Friendship to Love" roses.
With them, you're implying that you'd like to move from
friendship (yellow) into love (red). White roses symbolize
purity or innocence, and pink are for new love, or
infatuation.
Buy the roses with intention. With the background
information of knowing the meaning of the colors and
noticing her aesthetic sensibilities, you can tell your
beloved how the roses are especially for her, red roses
included. She will love knowing that you took the time to
notice and consider what she would like, and that you have
a wonderful and romantic reason why you chose these
particular roses. Understanding and valuing the woman you
love and letting her know that you notice special things
about her is among the best gifts you can give her!
